Podcast Performance Lab: Trailer

In this show we take the most effective tools from improv performance and behavioural psychology, and apply them directly to your video and audio content. If you're building a personal brand, B2B show, or a creative new podcast, you know how you say things matters just as much as what you say.

What to expect:

  1. Psychology of Presence: Why listeners trust some voices and tune out others (and how to fix "flat" audio).
  2. Unscripted Strategy & Exercises: How to speak naturally using tools from improv & behavioural science.
  3. Production Strategy: Systems for video podcasting that don't burn you out.

Host: Jen deHaan is the founder of StereoForest. With a background of over 20 years in tech, education, & instructional design and 10 years in improv and performance, Jen brings systems and scientific approach to media production.

When you commit to a solo podcast,

::

you're starting something that is a great way

::

to demonstrate your knowledge or your own passion

::

about something.

::

Your single voice becomes the trusted source

::

for your audience.

::

But this type of podcast is arguably the most challenging

::

to sustain long term.

::

The solo podcast relies entirely on your knowledge

::

and your own stamina.

::

You got to do the work.

::

And unless you have a budget, you got to do all of that work.

::

And this dynamic puts 100% of the pressure for ideation

::

and scripting and performance squarely

::

on your solo podcaster's shoulders.

::

And that's a lot of assets that demand

::

a really complex strategy.

::

And you quickly can end up with some pretty unique challenges

::

and risks compared to other shows that have guests

::

or a co-host or both.

::

You're looking at decision fatigue

::

because you have no conversational partner or sounding

::

board to go off of.

::

You're risking pod fade where you quit production

::

often because of the psychological toll of performing

::

for no one and the lack of immediate feedback on anything.

::

You must also manage the risk of vocal fatigue

::

from just maintaining an engaging tone without interruption.

::

So for experts, this can be compounded even further

::

by the pressure we put on ourselves

::

to generate original ideas or angles for every episode.

::

Hi, I'm Jen deHaan.

::

And this is the new show, The Solo Podcasting Handbook.

::

I've taught and coached creators for years.

::

And we're going to go over and cover all of the unique

::

operational and psychological challenges

::

like that burnout or pod fade of running a one person show,

::

The Solo Podcast.

::

And despite everything I just said,

::

I love solo podcasting.

::

So I'm going to show you systems that work for me

::

to manage cognitive load and keep your listeners listening.

::

We'll look at the format and the structural frameworks

::

that use storytelling to retain attention.

::

We'll talk about how to perform on microphone or camera

::

for an audience that you can't even see.

::

We're going to build your solo podcast

::

into something that you enjoy doing so you don't pod fade.

::

So join me on The Solo Podcasting Handbook

::

wherever you get your podcasts.
